CYBEX AIRBAG TECHNOLOGY, THE BENCHMARK FOR FORWARD-FACING CAR SEATS

Bayreuth, June 11th 2026 – For decades, airbags have been one of the most significant advances in automotive safety. Today, the same technology is redefining protection for children.

CYBEX AIRBAG TECHNOLOGY, THE BENCHMARK FOR FORWARD-FACING CAR SEATS

Recent statements from ADAC, Europe's largest automobile association and among the most influential independent organizations for child car seat safety testing, highlight that a forward-facing child seat can only achieve a comparable level of protection to rear-facing travel in frontal collisions if it is equipped with an airbag that catches the child's head during a crash and reduces the risk of injury.

According to ADAC, rear-facing child restraints provide broad support to both the child's body and head immediately upon impact, helping to reduce forces acting on the head and neck. In a conventional forward-facing seat, the upper body is restrained while the head continues moving forward, placing strain on the neck. An integrated airbag helps address this challenge by supporting the head and upper body during the critical moments of a collision.

This principle is at the heart of the CYBEX Anoris T2 i-Size, part of the world's first line of child car seats equipped with an integrated full-body airbag.

Built into the impact shield, the airbag deploys within milliseconds in a frontal collision, forming a protective C-shape around the child, showing up to 50% more safety compared to conventional forward-facing child seats with a 5-point harness system, according to ADAC frontal crash test criteria. It helps protect the head, neck and body while distributing forces more effectively across a larger surface area.

Designed for children from >15 months to 7 years, the Anoris T2 i-Size extends the benefits of this pioneering technology across a long period of use.

According to a study conducted by YouGov on behalf of CYBEX in Germany (2025), 73%¹ of parents put their child's car seat forward-facing before the child is two years old. This increases the risk of injury to the child by up to 50% in the event of an accident.

“If you want your child to ride forward-facing, you absolutely should choose a model with a full-body airbag,“ says Franz Peleska, Vice President for Product Management Child Safety Global at CYBEX. "In the event of a front collision, this type of car seat provides up to 50% more safety than conventional forward-facing models with a 5-point harness system.²"

As independent experts increasingly recognize the role of airbags in improving forward-facing protection, the Anoris T2 i-Size continues to demonstrate how automotive safety innovation can help shape the future of child mobility.
